Forest  Resource  Distribution  Survey

Forest  Resources

Background and Purpose

The distribution of forest resources is interconnected in a chain from upstream material suppliers to downstream demand, extending even to waste disposal. This study classifies the distribution of forest resources into four sectors: “Forest,” “Manufacturing,” “Construction,” and “Disposal.” It aims to clarify the trends in forest resources, focusing primarily on construction utilization. It also analyzes environmental aspects such as CO2 emissions, carbon sequestration, and market value, alongside economic aspects, to investigate issues and future possibilities.

Results

This study created flow diagrams as a platform for understanding the current state and challenges across disciplines. These diagrams represent the flows of wood resources, carbon, and money as infographics spanning the entire supply chain from upstream to downstream, based on statistical data. Regarding material flow diagrams, diagrams were also created for major forest nations—Finland, Sweden, Germany, and Canada—enabling a comparative analysis of Japan's challenges. The research findings were presented at conferences including the Japanese Society of Forest Science and international conferences.
