This man inspired us
This man inspired us
November 2020, we went on a study trip to Taing Yu Protected Forest. We arrived at 1 pm and started to climb 45 degrees for 1km. It took us 1.5 hours to finish and continue another 3 hours trek on the top of the mountain. We arrived at the waterfall late afternoon and start to prepare our camping.
We played at the waterfall. During the campfire night. We had an opportunity to meet with Pu No. Pu No is a community forest head. Pu No has only one arm and spent most of his time in the forest. He told us about his forest and the challenges the community is facing.
For there was only one question to ask ourselves, how come an old man with a single arm can face such a situation. For example, wild hunting, illegal logging, land grasping, and low income of villagers which harm to the forest.
Finally, he inspired all of us and we want to do something to be part of him and the forest.

To help solve illegal logging, wild hunting, and land grasping more patrolling must be doing. However, there was not sufficient patrolling due to the lack of resources. To reduce villagers' pressure on the forest, their livelihood must be improved or an alternative livelihood must introduce for villagers.
TaingYu Cafe project aims to join the community to tackle these problems by promoting ecotourism to Taing Yu Projected Forest so that villagers have an opportunity to earn additional income from providing guiding, portering, and cooking.
Taing Yu Cafe team is going to provide ongoing advice on ecotourism development and management to the local community and capacity development. We are conducting online and social media marketing and branding to attract more visitors. In our long-term goal, we hope to contribute part of our profit to support long-term patrolling of the forest.
What are the changes we are looking forward to making?

We aim to bring an average of 80,000 visitors to visit Taing Yu and attract tourist expenditure to Taing Yu at around 60,000USD/year
We aim at creating 15 job employment for the local community in the 1st year following by 30 and in the next 2 years. 60% of the job will be created for women in the village.

Taing Yu cafe is a small cafe shop and it is an information HUB (centre) connecting the people who love nature come to visit the Taing Yu community and help develop the local economy.
Curly is such a gentle, simple, and easy-going man. He loves gardening and always dream of having his own home garden in the city. Sale and marketing are a big part of his life. He could see a promotion from many corners.
Curly wants Taing Yu Cafe to play a vital role in forest protection with the community and Taing Yu expand itself to provide more job opportunities for the local community.
Ah Youn, the name was given long a time ago by his friend during high school. Youn dedicates himself to social work. He always says, he just wants to do as much as he can while he living for society. He loves nature. At the end of the road, we want to see Taing Yu Cafe is sustain and Taing Yu forest remain as it is for the next generation to come.
