The City of Pines
Tagaytay, officially known as the City of Tagaytay, is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the Philippines due to its cool climate, scenic landscapes, and panoramic views of Taal Volcano. Located in the province of Cavite, Tagaytay sits on the Tagaytay Ridge approximately 2,000 feet above sea level, making it a natural highland getaway for travelers from Metro Manila and nearby provinces.
Today, Tagaytay continues to be one of the most visited destinations in Southern Luzon, known for its blend of natural beauty, cool climate, and growing tourism infrastructure.
Origin of the Name (Legend) comes from “taga” (to cut) and “itay” (father). A father and son were hunting a wild boar. The son shouted “Taga, Itay!” (“Cut him down, Father!”) when the boar attacked. The shout echoed in the valleys and forests, and locals began calling the place Tagaytay.
