Sustainable energy to fund community activities
The Taff Bargoed community funding initiative enables community interest groups to obtain funded grants, supporting the provision of community focused activities such as free workshops and improvements to local recreational facilities. Sustainable Energy to Fund Community Activities
The Friends of Taff Bargoed Park operate a 100kW Hydropower system at the cascades of the Taff Bargoed River. Profits from the system are to deliver community benefit through improving facilities, equipment and support for local clubs, societies and community groups in the Taff Bargoed area.
Since construction of the project was completed and the system switched on in 2016, it has been feeding power to the national grid.
The annual power generation for the site is approximately 420,000 kWh/annum –enough to power about 150 houses. This results in a CO2 saving of 220 tonnes/year.
