World Taekwondo Plaque of Appreciation

On 5th February 2020, Grand Master Pradipta Kumar Roy became the first individual in India to receive the esteemed "World Taekwondo Plaque of Appreciation" from Dr. Chung-won Choue, the President of World Taekwondo (WT).

The World Taekwondo Plaque of Appreciation is a prestigious honor bestowed by World Taekwondo (WT), the governing body for Taekwondo worldwide. This award recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to the development and promotion of Taekwondo globally.

Grand Master Roy’s contributions have not only helped grow Taekwondo in India but also elevated the country's stature in the global Taekwondo community. His tireless work in nurturing talent, fostering international collaboration, and creating opportunities for athletes has left a lasting impact on the sport. This award serves as a tribute to his hard work, dedication, and vision, and signifies a proud milestone for the Taekwondo community in India.

This recognition is a significant moment in the history of Taekwondo in India, and it sets an inspiring example for future generations of practitioners, coaches, and enthusiasts who aim to make a global impact in the taekwondo world.

Master Pradipta Kumar Roy and Master Ruma Roy Chowdhury were felicitated by the Hon'ble Prime Minister of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh, in 2009 for their outstanding contributions to Taekwondo. They hold the distinction of being the first Taekwondo athletes to receive this honor.

2003 Senior World Taekwondo Championship

In 2005, Master Ruma Roy Chowdhury earned a remarkable Silver Medal in Kyorugi at the prestigious Korea Open. Competing against some of the world's best athletes, Korea claimed the Gold, India proudly secured the Silver, and Japan took home the Bronze. The India Team was supported by HYUNDAI Motors, who graciously sponsored the team, making this remarkable achievement possible. This outstanding achievement by Master Ruma Roy Chowdhury not only highlighted her exceptional skills but also marked a significant milestone for Indian Taekwondo on the international stage.

In 2023, Prof. (Dr.) Debasis Bhattacharyya, the esteemed President of the Taekwondo Association of West Bengal (TAWB), made a significant visit to Taekwondowon, the global epicenter of Taekwondo located in South Korea. This visit highlighted Prof. Bhattacharyya’s commitment to the advancement of Taekwondo not only within West Bengal but also across India and the world.

Taekwondowon, known for its iconic architecture and world-class facilities, serves as a cultural and training hub for Taekwondo practitioners, enthusiasts, and educators worldwide. It stands as a symbol of the rich history and the global outreach of Taekwondo, making it an ideal setting for the exchange of ideas, knowledge, and experiences in the martial arts community.

Taekwondo Legend, Grand Master Pradipta Kumar Roy, had the privilege of meeting Dr. Vivek Pathak, Founder and Managing Director of the NIPS Group—an institution where Grand Master Roy once walked the halls as a student. The reunion was marked by warmth, respect, and heartfelt memories, as Dr. Pathak extended a gracious welcome to his former student.

In a moment filled with deep honor and significance, Grand Master Roy presented the prestigious World Taekwondo 50 Years Journey Blazer Pin and a Korean Tie to Dr. Pathak, on behalf of the World Taekwondo Family.

This pin is far more than a symbol—it represents five decades of dedication, resilience, and global unity in Taekwondo as an Olympic sport. It stands as a powerful tribute to the journey, the spirit, and the enduring legacy that connects all of us within the global Taekwondo community.
