Philips B3X54A (1965)
The Model
This is a "kitchen radio", i.e., a non-expensive, small-sized tabletop radio. This particular model from 1965 was one of the last to use only vacuum tubes, as from the mid-sixties onwards transistors were used more and more (e.g. Siera Aristona SA2211A), mostly because of the lower heat dissipation. Like most kitchen radios, this one has a plastic cabinet (before plastics, Bakelite was the choice material). Manufactured by Philips Netherlands, in Eindhoven.
This radio receives Long/Medium/Short Wave AM plus FM. The FM range goes up to 104 MHz, which is characteristic of its time (FM range up to 108 MHz only became usual at the end of the decade.
The Object
Like most of my radios, I found it at the Het Goed thrift store in Eindhoven. It cost 20 euros in October 2021.
The cabinet was in outstanding condition, which is common in plastic radios. The single exception being the white strap (with golden frames) that should be glued to the bottom front of the cabinet, but was gone. I had noticed it before the purchase, but figured I could improvise a replacement.
