Farha
Cedra Baarini
Farha is a twelve-year-old Syrian girl, born and raised in Deir ez-Zur in Syria. She lives with a big family, always fighting for attention amongst her siblings. She has light brown short hair, often tied back in a messy ponytail, and brown eyes. Farha is loud, often obnoxious and shows her love in unconventional ways through blunt remarks and sarcasm. Farha doesn’t care for her attractiveness. As a main carer for her parents, she holds an incredibly generous heart, always present for her friends in difficult times, especially her best friend Rosa. Farha often hides this side of herself until she feels that those around her will reciprocate her care. Farha carries the weight of generational trauma from war and drought, pushing her to become an adult through childhood, but she’s been trying to find moments of joy and friendship amongst those she loves, despite tragedy.
Rosa
Mira Fares
Rosa is a thirteen-year-old Syrian girl, born and raised in Damascus in Syria. She also lives with a big family, however slightly disconnected and less affectionate amongst one another. At first, Rosa is shy and reclusive, however still kind and friendly. Her friendship with Farha has brought out Rosa’s competitive, sarcastic side, egged on her by her best friend. Rosa’s family is upper-middle class, she had never felt like an outcast, but soon begins to understand the unfairness of the world through her public school education and friendship with Farha. Rosa’s mother and sisters have forced upon her vainness and importance of class, but Rosa likes to take things less seriously and be more like Farha.
