Communication and collaboration refers to the process of exchanging or sharing opinions, ideas, information and resources between people to achieve a common goal/objective. We have communication which we call effective communication which includes verbal and non-verbal exchange of messages, active listening and clarity purpose. Collaboration involves working together, sharing responsibilities and building on each other's ideas and strength to produce meaningful and collective outcomes
Examples of communication and collaboration include:
Brainstorming sessions and discussions, where learners in the classroom are given an opportunity to think/come up with ideas about a particular topic given to them and share them among each other's.
Team project and presentations, here learners are given a project that requires them to do it in groups, so that they can improve communication and collaboration among them and also make them to get along and understand the power and importance of team work.
Joint problem-solving and decision making
Communication and Collaboration can be integrated into a theme by:
using technology tools like collaboration software and online platforms
Stimulating an open and inclusive classroom environment
Using group activities and projects that demand teamwork and problem-solving
Encouraging active listening and empathy
Encouraging communication and collaboration among learners with diverse background, interests and skill sets
Specific theme based example: In a language arts class, students must collaborate on a group story and then perform it for the class and in a science class, students should work together in making and conducting experiment and present their findings to the class. By incorporating communication and collaboration into teaching. It will assist learners develop essential skills like team, critical thinking and effective communication.
