Dear SysMus community,
Have you always wanted to organise a conference? This is your opportunity! We are now inviting proposals to host the International Conference of Students of Systematic Musicology in 2027 (SysMus27).
SysMus conferences are organised by students for students and provide a unique space for early-career researchers (including Master’s and PhD students) to network and share ideas in a supportive environment. Hosting SysMus is a fantastic opportunity to gain experience in academic event organisation and contribute to the community.
SysMus27 will mark the 20th anniversary of the conference series, and we would love to make it a special one! For this reason, we are planning the first multi-hub SysMus, with one primary host and additional host institutions around the world operating in different time zones. Each hub will run its own in-person activities while also contributing to a shared online programme, allowing participants to engage locally while staying connected globally.
If you would like to be one of the host hubs, please submit a short proposal (max three A4 pages) to sysmus.executive@gmail.com, addressing the following:
Proposed venue
Available human resources (people interested in joining the organising committee)
Proposed academic supervisor (demonstrating their commitment to actively support the organising of the conference)
Demonstrate available resources (i.e., AV/other specialised equipment). Please note that you do not need to demonstrate experience and/or equipment to support the multi-hub aspect. The SysMus Executive Committee will support all host institutions in this regard.
Demonstrate potential financial resources
Answer the following questions:
Why would you like to be a SysMus27 host hub?
What will make you a good conference chair?
Based on the proposals we receive, the Executive Committee and the SysMus Council will determine the hub structure. For further guidance with applications, previous successful proposals can be found on the links page.
The deadline for proposals is the 31st of January, 2026. We look forward to receiving your proposals!
Sincerely,
James Cannon
Chair, SysMus Executive Committee
