Currently Synchronized Figure Skating is not an Olympic sport. In 2018 the hashtag #WhyNotSynchro started to campaign for synchro to become an Olympic sport. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) holds a meeting every year to determine what new sports will join the Olympics. Although they have discussed Synchronized Skating they have yet to allow it to join the Olympics. Currently the highest event in Synchro is the World Synchronized Skating Championships that are held every year in March. For years, Synchronized Skaters have dreamed of participating in the Winter Olympic Games.
The purpose of the petition is to show the IOC the support Synchronized Figure Skating has to join the Olympics. It's important that the IOC make the decision to add Synchro to the Olympics sooner rather than later, so that the host country has enough time to plan for Synchronized Figure Skating. The host country for the 2026 Winter Olympics is Italy.
