The original human colonists arrived fleeing from a catastrophic series of events that led to several other colonies to being attacked and wiped out by warlords from the remnants of the Federated Naval Fleet after years of civil uprisings and strife caused the central governments of Earth to completely collapse and stranding countless colonists on the edges of known space. Several elements from the FNF, working in isolation due to a lack of command network, proceeded to establish connections and organize evacuations of several different colonies, fleeing known space to escape a potential raid by the roving bands. Daedalus was speculated as a future colonialization endeavor by the FNF for almost ten years and was well known. Several of these fleets landed in isolated areas of the galaxy across the span of years, establishing independent conclaves of colonies that grew in size, bearing and integrating with the refugees collected on the way.
Over time, these conclaves formed into new, self-established governments that had assumed cultural identities gathered as a mix from the military personnel who had manned these vessels and the colonists rescued by them. Over time, these conclaves, not knowing the presence of the others within the same galaxy... eventually assumed new identities as a whole over the span of generations. In the end, three governments had formed, reflecting their new cultures and specifically built to deal with the alien life they had discovered and dealt with.
The Free Republic of New Earth was supposed to be a second chance, a way to restart and fix the broken aspects of the old system. Initially, they were met by success due to isolation and a lack of hostile forces to impede on them in their thought to be remote section of the galaxy, declaring the system they landed in as Independence. They spread across several additional solar systems, establishing planetary defense networks, cities, and focused more on civilian industry than their military capacity, expecting the old wars to be left behind. This was even more well established the meeting of the Alien Swarm. Deciding to approach in a peace-making capacity, using generations old equipment and ships, the Alien Swarm recognized the dilapidated nature of the Republic and formed a friendly relationship with them. This peace was sustained, with the Swarm withholding knowledge of the other threats of Daedalus, thinking that the Republic would maintain its weak and controllable defense capabilities if the Swarm offered to protect them.
Meanwhile, near the dark space at the edge of the Leviathan's Spiral Arm, another group of conclaves landed... immediately coming under threat by foreign alien threats that would abduct their people and steal their ships and technology at every given chance, forcing the FNF remnants to reconsolidate several scattered colonial efforts into a single larger city. This single city, named Unity, formed into the start of a new capital. The commander of the FNF forces, Admiral Harriet Khalif, organized the city through shrewd diplomacy and the people's confidence in the forces so far. Forming a temporary government from the former colonies, calling themselves the Assembly, they formed a basic constitution and outline of guaranteed rights for themselves and those they would be integrated into the fold. During a major attack on the city, creatures began rising from their fallen soldiers, but Khalif and his men counter-attacked... with the aid of an unknown force of soldiers bearing strange technologies. Unknown to the Khalif's forces... these ancient protectors were a group known as the Janitors, repelling the invaders and purging the city of the monstrous infection that initially ran through it before leaving without a trace... besides a handful of dead left behind... alongside technology far beyond the Khalif's own. With much of the Assembly's loyalists dead, Khalif was granted emergency powers and through constant attacks and escalating political strife caused by different groups of colonists, Khalif was declared High-Commander... and eventually Imperator due to a push of a political party known as the Unionists. Hesitantly accepting the title, it was initially a formality to recognize his service to the city... but each crisis granted new emergency powers... until Khalif was granted a near autocratic status. Now, generations after Khalif's death, the High-Commander who took over his role declared his daughter Imperator, hoping to secure additional loyalty from the citizenry and prevent strife, thus beginning... the Khalife Empire.
Not far behind the others' initial colonialization efforts, a warlord of the FNF who had fought through many other fleets and enemy forces managed to escape the core of the Federation, forcing the surrendered forces into service, raiding worlds, and forcing its people into service aboard his vessels. Notably, he had in possession a handful of Nomad vessels, ships specifically created to establish colonies, stolen from war-torn Earth's orbit. In a bout of proclamation to his command, he declared himself as Shogun amongst warlords, seeking to not only leave the 'broken ashes of this decayed Federation' but to establish a new conquest in the far reaches of a distant galaxy, the Daedalus system. By the end of their travel, the Shogun's forces landed in the dark space at the edge of the furthest galactic reaches of its peripheral edge. Establishing the Shogunate, they were immediately confronted by the pirate groups of the Warhounds, establishing deep in their territory. Finding the alien slavers to be a 'cumbersome foe' compared to the warlords of the Federation, the Shogunate fought a war known as the 'New Reckoning' taking much of the core territory of the Warhound warlord known as the Iron-King and eventually a race of bird-like warriors known as the Pterrodii. Worlds liberated from them feared the rule of their new overlords... but found that the autocratic control... was minimal. A system of tithes was imposed, the greatest leaders of the worlds conquered were declared as lords themselves, but overall... very little oversight occurred beyond expectations of full military cooperation. In the thrall of the Shogun, worlds ruled for generations and forced into hard labor found freedom and prosperity, forming the core of the Shogunate. Humans still formed the core backbone of the forces, but as time has progressed, more and more of the alien races have integrated themselves military into the Shogunate. Over time, the Shogunate has grown to fill the space around themselves, expanding even into dark space and additional worlds of the periphery, conquering as much as feasible regardless of true ability to control. Now, generation after generation, the greatest generals of the Shogunate are declared as the new Shogun during a war council upon the death of the previous Shogun, forsaking their previous name and titles to serve namelessly as the new ruler of the almighty Shogunate.
Generations after its founding, nearly 60 past its first founding... the Republic, thought to be alone in its new galaxy... was approached by a lone Khalifate Scouting vessel. Panic ensued, the Republic was lied to. Ousting the Swarm's presence in their space, the Republic feared the worst... the forces of their generations old foes in the Federation has found them. Bringing long since mothballed vessels and merchant ships into military service, training soldiers with generations old equipment used for little more than policing and anti-piracy... the Republic made hard decisions. Factories meant for designer clothing was converted to making military uniforms. Machining plants converted into firearm manufacturing facilities, the Republic converted from an entirely civilian based economy to one meant to fight their war-like foes. Paranoia shook the Republic, fearing the Swarm would turn on them too, for they had kept them weak, fat, and complacent knowing that other threats were out there. Attempts at diplomacy failed, for the Republic had closed itself off to them for fear of further manipulation. The Republic fired the first shots at the Khalifate Ambassadors, destroying their vessels and damning humanity to war once more. Several years into the conflict, the Shogunate's forces had discovered the remains of battles between them... and used recovered navigational data to track down the worlds of both... and began the 'New Human War'. Despite pressure from the Swarm, the Janitors, and even Warhound, and Pterrodii attacks. The war reached its conclusion when the Janitors, investigating the initial battles of the war, found that the Republic was the first instigators of the conflict... and launched a surgical strike and attacked the Senate and Republic's central command structure in their capital city of Liberty Bay, destroying the city completely upon discovering development of super weapons meant to turn the tide of the conflict. With its command structure shattered, the Khalifate and Shogunate began assaulting now defenseless worlds... while the majority of the military began a tactical withdrawal further into peripheral space, leaving behind the Republic's withered citizenry and most of the garrisons. These scattered worlds formed loose government bodies and when the Khalifate and Shogunate forces arrived to conquer them... they found staunch resistance and deeply entrenched guerilla fighters. These fighters, initially overran, reformed each time they were conquered and repelled the invaders, but were never able to organize effectively. These cells of resistance, calling themselves the Revolutionaries, dictate a continued campaign of resistance and terror until these foreign invaders are repelled forever. These fighters, initially maintaining a difficult issue of logistics and supplies... found benefactors in their manipulators... the Swarm. Some accepted assistance gratefully... most resisted... and forced the Swarm to assist in secret through proxy, often hiring Warhounds to resupply through intermediaries. Reaching a tedious period known as the 'Republic's Peace' the Shogunate, Khalifate, and Revolutionaries continued fighting protracted skirmishes, no group ever gaining drastic gains regardless of effort exhibited.
Nearly 40 years after the fall of the Republic, a group of mercenaries, calling themselves the Crashers, arrived back in the newly declared Human Regions, bringing forth newly vitalized Republic ships and equipment with new strategies and tactics. Clearly recognized as remnants of the fleeing Republic forces, these new soldiers had rejected their old political allegiances in order to profit from this protracted conflict, accepting jobs from any and all groups. Now, these Human Regions are a never-ending attritional conflict, under deep scrutiny and constant interference by outside factions, each seeking to assist different groups and gain a strategic victory or gains of their own in these rich industrial worlds.
However... the sins of the father are not so easily forgotten. Now... Mother Earth calls to her wayward children... as a new threat rises and threatens the new empires once more...
