Symmetries and repeating structures pose additional ambiguities in the matching process of structure-from-motion (SfM) approaches as well as in dense multi-view stereo methods and are mostly rejected as outliers. Current methods often break down because the matching problem be solved correctly. Nevertheless, detecting symmetries in 3D data can be extremely useful, e.g.
The 3D symmetry detection challenge provides multiple datasets for real and synthetic data in combination with local and global symmetries. Each of them containing training and test data.
We expect the submission of detection results for any of multiple of the following test data sets:
Along with the challenge submission, we expect a short 4-page report for novel algorithms, or a paper reference for published methods. Paper submission guidelines and document templates are provided on the submission page.
