Discussion Format

Surry Hills Sci-Fi & Fantasy Book Club

  1. Wait 15 min for everyone to come and order food/drinks

  2. Introduce everyone

Get everyone to go around in a circle and tell the group their name and if they've read the book.

  1. Split group into sub-groups of 5-7 and pick group leaders

Each group leader will facilitate discussion for their sub-group.

  1. Book summary and context for anyone that hasn't read it.

  2. Get general thoughts/opinions on the book

Go around in a circle in each sub-group and get everyone to share their general thoughts on the book.

  1. Use prompts to get everyone to participate

Go around in a circle and ask questions from the list of prompts so everyone can participate in the discussion.

Pick the questions in order, at random or those that fit the book the best.

  1. Ask for next month's book suggestions after 60/90 min of talk

Get everyone to suggest books that they have read and vouch for. Switch between Sci-Fi or Fantasy depending on last month's book.

Every suggestion must explain the premise/synopsis to convince the others to vote for it.

The most voted book(s) will be added to the book list and potentially picked to be voted on for an upcoming month.

For an even vote split flip a coin or use an online random number generator for fairness.
