Trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioner placement guidance
The faculty of Advanced Clinical Practice recommend trainees to organise their own placements following a
meeting with their supervisor to identify areas of interest and benefit.
The trainee will ensure that the employer and supervisor are aware of what placements are being accessed and when. The trainee must document learning outcomes in their portfolio as workplace-based assessments.
In the instance that the trainee is off sick or cannot attend they must inform their employer and placement area.
Regardless of the University attended, key modules that are mandatory to progress through the MSc including
advanced physical assessment and consultation skills, non-medical prescribing, and research. However, evidence to support all the 4 pillars of advanced practice are required to pass the course. In view of this, the faculty recommend that placements are accessed as they will enrich the trainee’s academic studies, experience, and skills.
Suggested length of placements will be variable for each trainee based upon previous knowledge and experience but as a baseline it is recommended that each area be visited for a minimum of 1 day and more arranged if deemed beneficial, appropriate and the provider has capacity to honor it.
