RULES & EXPECTATIONS SIGN-OFF FORM
*Link will be available closer to season
Two unexcused absences will prevent the athlete from competing in the next meet.
Three unexcused absences will result in dismissal from the track team.
An unexcused absence during the week of a meet may affect how many and what events an athlete will be in at that meet.
An absence is considered EXCUSED if the coaching staff is notified by a parent/guardian before or within 2 days past the absence.
A missed practice on the day before a meet must be excused by a parent/guardian BEFORE dismissal for the meet. Athletes will not be let on the bus if the absence has not been officially excused/approved.
Excessive excused absences may also lead to removal from meet rosters but not necessarily to removal from the team.
To contact Coach Bruch regarding an absence, call the school (347-5232) to have a message delivered, email scottie.bruch@k12.sd.us, or notify the coaching staff via the Remind App.
Athletes will bring proper and appropriate clothing/shoes for each practice and for all kinds of weather. Spikes are not required. If an athlete purchases spikes, he/she is responsible for getting them to and from practices and meets.
Athletes will be ready for warm-up drills at the track by 3:45pm or at Grunwald by 3:30pm.
Athletes will follow the specified route to the track and will do so by walking and/or running. Riding in a vehicle or on a bike, skate board, or any other mode of transportation is prohibited.
Athletes will be courteous to pedestrians and drivers and also to athletes/coaches/parents/bus drivers from our school and from other schools.
At practices, at meets, and at school, our athletes are representatives of SWMS and of our 6-12 Track & Field program. Athletes will conduct themselves in an appropriate manner, be on their best behavior, and follow school rules. No cursing, being disrespectful, fighting, horseplay, poor sportsmanship, drug or alcohol use, or PDAs. These could be grounds for dismissal from the SWMS track team.
Athletes will display excellent sportsmanship at meets by cheering on their teammates from the stands or around the track. Lying around camp will not be permitted.
At meets, our camp is a place to eat, get hydrated, and rest between events. Athletes are expected to behave at all time in camp.
If an athlete is not in an event, warming up for an event, or rehydrating at camp, he/she is expected to be around the track cheering on teammates.
Athletes are required to properly warm-up for events. This means knowing the schedule, listening to the announcer, and starting warm-ups early.
An athlete's behavior at a meet will determine whether or not he/she goes to the next meet. Also, behavior at school and at practice will determine meet eligibility.
Athletes are required to ride the bus to and from meets.
Loading and unloading will be done at Grunwald.
If a circumstance requires an athlete ride home from a meet with a parent, the parent must sign a permission form at the meet or send a note with the athlete allowing the athlete to ride with another parent. On school days, dismissal from a meet is only AFTER 3:15pm.
If an athlete misses the bus, a parent can drive the athlete to the meet, and the Coaching Staff will decide if the athlete can still participate. The athlete must show up at approximately the same time as the bus for the Coaching Staff to consider participation.
Athletes are required to walk to the track at the beginning of practice as a part of our warm-up. It is a little less than a mile from the school to the track, and we expect that all athletes have time to changes clothes and make it to the track by 3:45pm. Athletes will carry their backpacks with them as there will be no return to the school after practice.
In the case of inclement weather, we will practice in Grunwald, and athletes are expected to be changed and ready for practice by 3:30pm. A Remind notice will also be posted.
Practice dismissal will be from wherever we have practice.
At the beginning of every practice, athletes will actively participate in a warm-up. This stretching routine serves two purposes: to keep our athletes injury-free and to teach and encourage proper running form. Athletes are expected to work hard and focus during this portion of our practice.
All athletes are required to participate in daily workouts to prep for track meets. These workouts take place after the warm-up and before dividing up for Field Event and Relay practice. If an athlete is too sick or injured to participate in a workout, then he/she is also too sick or injured to practice Field Events and/or to participate in meets.
