Any athletes that have an F for a grade in any of their classes will be ineligible to compete for the next week (Wednesday through Wednesday).
Students will be informed on Monday/Tuesday if they are ineligible with the list finalized on Wednesdays. It is the student-athlete's responsibility to inform parents about ineligibility. The Coaching Staff will NOT be responsible for relaying this information to parents.
Parents can also be connected to Infinite Campus to have access to their child's grades and encourage them to bring up any Fs.
The Coaching Staff will not deal with questions on eligibility. Those questions can be taken to the teacher and/or the SWMS administrators. If a mistake has been made and the issue has been resolved so that the student-athlete IS eligible, the Coaching Staff must be contacted by that teacher or a school administrator via personal conversation, note, email, etc. At that point, all efforts will be made by the Coaching Staff to allow that athlete to participate in that week's meet(s). However, if entries have already been closed, the athlete will not be able to participate. Also, since entries are limited and relay teams may have been reassembled, the athlete may be able to participate in the meet but not necessarily in the events the he/she wishes to participate in.
Attendance and active participation at practice will be one factor in determining how many meets and how many events athlete will participate in.
Another factor that will determine an athlete's participation in meets is his/her behavior. With the large number of athletes that we take to meets, it is in the team's best interest to only take athletes who are hardworking and well-behaved. Part of the decision whether or not to take an athlete will be based on how he/she represents himself/herself at practice, school, and other meets.
Due to the large number of athletes on our team, event entries are sometimes limited. Athletes MAY have the opportunity to compete in 2-4 events at each meet. We usually will not take athletes out of school for an entire day to participate in only 1 event.
Athletes can request the events in which they would like to complete; however, the Coaching Staff makes all final decisions regarding athlete placement.
The Coaching Staff makes all decisions regarding relay teams.
Missing events at meets will not be tolerated and may affect further meet participation.
If an injury or illness occurs during a meet, it is the athlete's responsibility to talk to the Coaching Staff about removal from events.
