Meet The Collectors

Okay, so this is not a typical or representative photo of my folks, but one that suits a website dedicated to their swizzle stick collection.

Mom wasn't much of a drinker (although she did enjoy a bit, at times), and Dad was more of Scotch on the rocks guy (which requires no swizzling), so I'm not sure what they were ordering to acquire so many swizzle sticks.

But then, many of the swizzle sticks are from an earlier era, before they were my folks. They were married in 1955, so their dating and early married life happened over a time that had a bit of a cocktail renaissance, and swizzle sticks were everywhere - a veritable golden age of cheap plastic keepsakes.

The bar at home was always well-stocked, and Dad would always be happy to pour you something with a smile.

May their memories be for a blessing.

Who am I? I'm their youngest son.

Dad, hard at work, sometime in the 1970s. He was in the record business over 40 years, from 1950 till his retirement in 1991.

Mom graduated Summa Cum Laude from Boston University in Mass Communications. When she went to get a job in radio, all anybody cared about was, "How fast can you type?"
