The Collection (part one)
We start in Boston, as our family did, at The Barn, located at the Beacon Street Hotel, where your swizzle stick may have also denoted what you ordered for dinner.
We haven't left Boston yet: the Cafe Riviera was at the Sheraton Hotel, which was also home to the Falstaff Room. The Gaslight Room was at the Kenmore.
Of course, Anthony's Pier 4 was one of Boston's most famous, and best, restaurants for many years. Here we also have the Orchid Lounge at the Hotel Somerset, and the China Sail Restaurant (Chestnut Hill, Salem, and Revere).
Anthony's Pier 4 may be more famous outside of Boston, but Jimmy's Harborside was the original, and many say the unrivaled best, place to eat on the waterfront. Here we have Jimmy's swordfish swizzle in several colors, but it seems at some point it was replaced with a marlin! (And the green one had his sword stolen by a poacher!)
The Latin Quarter is our final Boston dinner house before moving to California for drinks at the Century Plaza (LA), the Sea Thief (La Jolla), and the Playboy Club.
The Sheraton Kauai and The Bar at the Capital Hilton (DC) continue our travels. The Vineyard and the Mansion require more research to figure out where these came from.
The Nevele Country Club of Ellenville, NY, is where my parents spent their honeymoon, in 1955 (but a Safari in the Catskills?). Also: the Diplomat, Hollywood-By-The-Sea Florida, and the Hotel Del Coronado's (San Diego) 100th Anniversary!
A little international travel here with the Acapulco Plaza, the Miramar (Acapulco), and the Western International Hotels.
While odd shapes and molding appeal to many, the point here is to mix your drink, right? These swizzles do just that without any distraction. From Twelve-Eighty Beacon St. (yes, back to Boston), The Top of the Mark (Mark Hopkins Hotel, San Francisco), the Hotel Shelton (Boston), The Westerner Hollywood Plaza, and the Commissioned Officer's Mess (Boston).
Our sports-themed swizzles include a couple of un-branded golf clubs (small driver, larger one with ball), a golf club from the Blue Hill Country Club, and a discus thrower(!) from the Sidney Hill Country Club (Chestnut Hill, MA).
