Kid Librarian

For grades K-6

How would YOU like to create a book display for the Children's Department? We will meet with you to help you curate your own book display that will be featured for one week. Choose the books, make the sign and add your own personal touch. You'll learn how to use our catalog system, and you'll even get to go behind the desk to scan the books! Fill out the "job application" on our website, or in person at the Children's Desk to participate.

Lego Club

Sundays in March 1st-29th at 2 PM

Come build with friends using the Library's extensive brick collection.

Magic Book Club

Tuesdays, March 3rd & 24th, April 14th & May 12th

 at 6 PM

For grades 3-6

Whether you’re a fan of Harry Potter and Percy Jackson and you’re looking to find your next favorite read, or you’re new to reading fantasy and need a place to start, this book club is for you! We’ll start with Dhonielle Clayton’s Marvellerso need to read it beforehand; copies of the book will be provided at the first meeting. 

Register for each meeting separately the 15th of each prior month.

Cardboard City

Wednesday, March 11th at 6 PM

For grades K-4

Join us for play, exploration, and adventure as we work together to build our own spectacular city out of recycled cardboard. We’ll start with a story, watch an episode of PBS’s Alma’s Way, and then begin building!

Pi(e) Day

Saturday, March 21st at 1 PM

For grades 3-6

Learn to make pie crust to take home and taste-test different types of pie. *Pies may contain gluten, dairy, and other possible allergens. Feel free to contact us with any questions regarding this.

Bedtime Math

Thursdays, March 19th & April 23rd at 6 PM

For grades K-2

Let kids know how fun math can be! This evening program, targeted for ages 4-8, will begin with a short and fun set-up story, followed by hands-on math problems and activities that are short yet engaging. Let’s bring math to life for your child!

Register for each class separately beginning on the first of each respective month. 

K-Pop Demon Hunters Sing-Along

Saturday, April 11th at 2 PM

For grades 1-4

 When we offered this in the winter for teens, you asked us to offer it for kids, and we heard you! Join us for a high-energy K-Pop Demon Hunters–inspired party that mixes music, dance, food, and fun. Come dressed as your favorite character and get ready to sing along to your favorite songs from the movie while enjoying Korean-inspired food and other activities!

Build a Birdhouse

April 13th OR May 13th at 6:30 PM

For grades K-2 with a caregiver

What kind of birds dwell around here? Which have you seen in your backyard? Have you ever noticed a wren? Join us to learn a bit more about birds and then build a birdhouse, perfectly sized for a wren. All supplies provided. Adult supervision/assistance required. 

Register for one session only beginning the first of the respective month. 

Earth Day Upcycling

Wednesday, April 22nd at 6 PM

For grades 1-4

April 22nd is Earth Day! Join us to learn what that means and how we can do our best to take care of our planet. Bring an old favorite t-shirt, or use one of the ones we’ll provide, to upcycle into a brand-new tote bag.

Stamp It Ink Lab

Tuesday, April 28th at 6 PM

For grades 5 & 6

Get ready to stamp, ink, and create! In this hands-on class, you will learn rubber stamping techniques while designing your own cards, bookmarks, and mini art projects. It’s all about creativity, self-expression, and some inky fun. No experience needed, just your imagination.

Paint Pals

Miss April from Splat! Art Studio is bringing class to us.  We are excited to offer this canvas painting class that will include all necessary supplies.

Junk/Art Journaling

Saturday, May 2nd at 1 PM

For grades 5 & up

Learn what a junk journal is, ways to use one, and how to get started making your very own junk journals. Miss April from Splat! Art Studio will lead the class, and all supplies will be provided.  Simply bring your creative mind!

PBCCA Non-Fiction Book Club

Tuesdays, May 5th - 26th at 6:30 PM

For grades 2&3

The Picture Book Children’s Choice Awards, held in partnership with the Allegheny County Library Association, Allegheny Intermediate Unit, and Spark Books, and offered to 1st and 2nd grade students in the district is coming to an end.  The winner will be announced in late spring.  BUT, for all those students who enjoyed it so much, we’re offering a non-fiction picture book club and encourage you to bring your family and friends.  We’ll read four titles in all and vote for our favorite one during the last class.  Join us for books, discussion, and activities.
