What's Blogging?

What is Blogging all about and VLogging for that matter?

So let us deal with the really basic stuff first. Blog's came about as a means of posting information onto the internet easily so that others could access it. The early forms of blogs allowed text and pictures to be added but they were quite basic tools. Since then with the ease of Video production people share not just text but videos as well hence VLog(ging).

What it meant though was that suddenly anyone could put information and content onto the internet. Almost overnight it created millions of new publishers of information.

Instead of websites being static... blogs could be incorporated into them and news items could be added by people with very little training. If people could use a regular word processor now they could publish content onto the Internet... in 2004 this was very exciting... actually it revolutionised content publishing on the Internet.

Why is this important?

Within a very short space of time... Anyone with a desire to share their thinking with the world could now do it. If you wrote interesting, absorbing, enlightening content and word got out... you could now reach millions of people. The net effect was that people from across the planet with shared interests could now connect through their blogging.

Blogs aren't a message to anyone in particular

In other forms of communication we tend to be talking to a known audience. Emails, newsletters, even social media. Uniquely with blogging we just don't know where our words (video) will end up. It's the old message in a bottle concept, but faster.

You don't have to ask anyone's permission

This is the best bit for all those 'free spirits' out there. This is your space for you to talk about whatever it is you want to chat about. You set the time, frequency and the agenda. You can even switch off people making comments if you want.

So if you want to get things off your mind... If you want to be contentious... you want to open up pandora's box... go ahead... just remember... once published posts are there pretty much for as long as we have electricity... so have fun... but be careful. What makes perfect sense to you today... maybe hard to retract later on...
