In 2014, a group of residents met at the Borough office to plan the 125th anniversary of the founding of Southwest Greensburg Borough. Throughout the fall, winter, and spring, the committee planned a summer, 125th Anniversary Pig Roast and Picnic and an autumn Founder’s Day Dance to commemorate the occasion. The events were such a momentous success that the committee decided to become the Southwest Greensburg Civic Society and to continue to provide events that would benefit all residents in the Borough – both young and old alike! The Civic Society’s mission is to serve all residents, businesses, and Borough government by strengthening, improving, and promoting the welfare of the community. And so, for the past 11 years, the Civic Society has organized dances, picnics, spring and autumn festivals, yard sales, porch crawls, luminary nights and caroling, and music in the parklet as well as seasonal scavenger hunts and visits from the Easter Bunny and Santa Claus. We have recently partnered with Amos K. Hutchinson Elementary School to assist with their schoolwide and community luminary night by providing holiday activities at various locations within the Borough. The Civic Society also welcomes new residents to the Borough with an informative Welcome Folder and small gift. Our senior group meets the first and third Wednesday of each month, weather permitting, from 12 pm – 3 pm to enjoy activities, snacks and friendships at the Civic Society building.
The Southwest Greensburg Civic Society meets the first Monday of each month, at 6 pm, at the Civic Society building, located at 424 Brandon Street. We always welcome new members.
