Our workers are high school students, with and without disabilities, from the Kankakee area. They typically work in the towns they live in. For many of them, this is their first real job. Employees work in a partnership and learn how to communicate and work together as a team. Sweet Connections provides a nurturing and understanding work environment, but at the same time we challenge our workers to try new experiences. Employees get hands on experiences with finances, public speaking, marketing, and selling. All of these skills are important in life and for their future careers.
Sweet Connections pushes for full inclusion within the workforce. For our employees with needs, we want them to be seen as important, productive, members of society. We want to showcase their abilities and talents in the workforce because we firmly believe everyone should have the same opportunity to work. Likewise, for our employees without needs, we want them to gain empathy and understanding of peers who might need additional support and help.
