Supervised 9 UCLA Master of Engineering (Meng) Capstone students (two project teams) in Summer 2023.
The first capstone project team focused on monitoring heart and breathing rates using ECG electrodes connected to ST's embedded QVAR frontend found in LIS2DUXS12 smart accelerometer. Students explored signal processing and machine learning techniques to extract vital signs from ECG signals. Students used Unico tool for Machine Learning Core (MLC) functionality to train and develop AI models.
The second captone project team attempted to classify American Sign Language (ASL) on-chip using QVAR radar electrodes attached to the wrist. With help from ST team, the students developed an analog multiplexer board that allows up to 16 electrodes to be read by the LIS2DUXS12 QVAR frontend. MLC tool provided in Unico Tool was used to develop a tiny decision tree that can classify different ASL gestures.
