Me and My Research Interests
For over a decade, I have been researching the design, development, optimization, and deployment of physics, uncertainty, lifelong-learning, and hardware-aware tiny AI models in wearables, automotive computers, robots, agricultural equipment, biologgers, small satellites, industrial machinery, and medical devices. Regarding my relevant experience and credentials, I earned my Ph.D. and M.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) in 2023 and 2021, respectively, with distinguished research dissertation awards. I also earned a B.Sc. in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the University of Dhaka in 2019, graduating as a prime minister’s gold medalist.
After earning my doctoral degree, I joined STMicroelectronics (Santa Clara, CA, USA), a multinational semiconductor company, as an algorithm development engineer in the MEMS Software Solutions Team and have been continuing my research since.
To date, I have published over 30 articles in leading journals and conferences in the field of applied tiny machine learning (tinyML) and edge AI deployment, including IEEE Sensors Journal, Nature Biotechnology, ACM Transactions on Embedded Computing Systems (TECS), IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation (ICRA), Proceedings of the ACM on Interactive Mobile Wearable and Ubiquitous Technologies (IMWUT), ACM International Conference on Pervasive and Ubiquitous Computing (UbiComp), Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (EMBC), and ACM Conference on Embedded Networked Sensor Systems (SenSys). My work has been cited over 600 times, has won 30+ awards in technical and business case competitions, and has been featured in major national newspapers in my home country. Some of the notable awards include the 2022 Southern California Robotics Symposium Rising Star Award, the 2021 IEEE Computer Society Lance Stafford Larson Best Paper Award, the 2018 Edward M. Kennedy Center Science for Mankind Research Award, the 2018 IEEE Richard E. Merwin Award, the 2017 All IEEE Young Engineers' Humanitarian Challenge, and the 2017 Rise High Bangladesh Award.
I have been granted 2 patents in my field and have 7 submitted patent applications, all of which are being adopted by major U.S. AI companies such as Meta, Google, Tesla, Garmin, Swift Navigation, Cisco, and Sage.
I also serve as a reviewer and program committee member for leading journals and conferences in my field, including the AAAI Conference on Artificial Intelligence, Nature Scientific Reports, IEEE Internet of Things Journal, ACM Transactions on Cyberphysical System, Proceedings of the ACM on Interactive, Mobile, Wearable and Ubiquitous Technologies, and Elsevier Pattern Recognition Letters.
I have been invited to speak on my work and provide tutorials at international platforms and topmost global universities, including the Networked and Distributed Security Symposium, Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, EdgeAI (tinyML) Foundation Webcast, IEEE Computer Society Bangladesh Chapter, and ACM Conference on Embedded Networked Sensor Systems.
I am a member of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), serving as treasurer of the IEEE San Francisco Bay Area MEMS and Sensors Chapter since 2024, which earned the best chapter award in IEEE Region 4 and 6 in 2024.
