An RA (resident assistant) as defined by NYU in the RA role profile, is
"a leader and resource for the residents in the community -- largely focusing on community development, being a referral agent and intellectual leader within the hall with a primary purpose of creating a sense of belonging."
This definition, while being true in the simplest form, lacks the complexity of the RA role.
RAs are the backbone of residential life; they curate a sense of belonging in halls, create and plan events, and are mentors and support systems for residents. Without RAs devotion and commitment to their job there would be no NYU community. They create a safe space and foster a welcoming environment for residents to explore new opportunities and places.
There are approximately 272 undergraduate RAs at NYU spread out between NYU's 21 residential halls. Below is a list of every undergraduate NYU dorm along with how many RAs work there and the ratio of residents to RA.
