Current Initiatives at Swansea
The Swansea Parent Council/Swansea Advisory Council (SAC) is proud to support a wide range of initiatives that enrich student learning, strengthen our school community, and enhance the overall school environment. Through collaboration with staff, students, and volunteers, SAC plays an active role in helping bring these important projects and programs to life.
Library Refresh
SAC is working in partnership with Swansea JSPS’s librarian, Ms. Legacy, to reimagine the school library as a more flexible and user-friendly learning space. This initiative includes upgrading outdated technology to better support communal teaching, introducing a computer-lab style area for group learning, and adding new seating, tables, headphones, and bookcases. SAC has committed funding to help make this refreshed, accessible learning environment a reality.
Eco-Club School Improvement
SAC is supporting the Eco Club by funding materials that enhance environmental learning and stewardship. This includes garbage grabbers for schoolyard clean-ups, seeds for pollinator plants, and cardboard construction tools for use in recycled material projects, art, and science activities.
Eco-Club Clothing Drive
The Eco Club launched an incredibly successful clothing drive in February — an initiative that helps reduce waste while raising funds for future environmental projects. Families are encouraged to donate gently used clothing and textiles, which are collected and donated to Value Village in exchange for funds. The goal is to collect 125 large bags, and every contribution helps. Donations can be dropped off in classrooms or across from the Main Office until April 10.
Welcome to Kindergarten
SAC supports incoming families by sponsoring Welcome to Kindergarten bags, filled with helpful items for early learners. These will be distributed at the Welcome to Kindergarten event for new 2026 students, helping to create a warm and welcoming introduction to the Swansea community.
Peacemakers Program
SAC is proud to support the Peacemakers program at Swansea by funding vests for student volunteers in Grades 4–6. These trained students help promote positive and safe interactions in the schoolyard, contributing to a respectful and inclusive play environment.
Caring & Safe Schools
SAC works alongside the Caring & Safe School Committee to help address the evolving needs of the school community. This committee, which includes parents, staff, students, and community partners, focuses on fostering a safe, inclusive, and accepting school climate. SAC collaborates with the committee to respond to identified needs and support initiatives that promote student well-being.
Grade 8 Graduation Fundraising Initiatives
SAC supports the Grade 8 Graduation Committee in its fundraising efforts, which help fund the graduation ceremony, trip, and celebration events. Recent initiatives include the Terra Cotta Cookie Sale (now closed, with pick-up on March 31) and Popcorn Days (now closed, with drop offs at students’ classrooms on April 2 and 17, May 1, 15 and 29, and June 4 and 19). These efforts play an important role in making graduation celebrations accessible and memorable for all students.
Natural Play Areas at Swansea
SAC is supporting the Swansea Natural Playground Committee in a multi-phase project to enhance outdoor learning spaces. This initiative will transform the schoolyard with natural elements that encourage exploration, creativity, and connection to nature. SAC has committed funding to support this project, which is also currently seeking volunteers—particularly grant writers—and a landscape architect willing to contribute their expertise.
Digital Wellness at Swansea
SAC supports the Digital Wellness Committee in promoting mindful and intentional technology use within the school community. This includes raising awareness about social media impacts, digital safety, and the role of technology in learning. A parent questionnaire will be shared to help guide future initiatives and ensure SAC can best support students and families in navigating digital life.
Pizza Days at Swansea
SAC proudly supports Pizza Days — Swansea JSPS’s largest fundraiser and a beloved community tradition. Funds raised help support a wide range of school initiatives. Upcoming Pizza Days are scheduled for March 24, April 7 and 21, May 5 and 19, and June 2 and 16.
