SVS Statement on Bertil Lundman

Since the early 1990s, the SVS has benefitted from financial resources from two foundations established by Bertil Lundman (1899-1993).  The funds provided by these foundations are used for various society activities including research scholarships and the society’s support of excursions and meetings.  Lundman was an anthropologist at Uppsala University who held racist views and published racist articles. The SVS rejects racist views as well as other forms of discrimination and, in fact, actively works to encourage and support researchers from diverse backgrounds to conduct fundamental research.
