About

The Swedish Phytogeographical Society (Societas Phytogeographica Suecana) has the aim to promote interest and knowledge in plant ecology and plant geography in a broad sense and to promote research within these fields.

The society was founded in 1923 as the Swedish Plant Sociological Society but was reconstructed under its present name in 1926. From the beginning its base has been at the Department of Ecological Botany at Uppsala University, but the society welcomes members from all over Sweden and internationally.

Our monograph series, Acta Phytogeographica Suecica, was regularly issued with one volume annually but is now more sporadic. We organize botanical excursions within and outside Scandinavia, and we award scholarships for research.

The Society includes members from all over the world and everyone is welcome to join.

Being a member has several advantages

- You can receive scholarships to fund your research in Botany or Anthropology
