Meeting one-on-one with a counselor is a good way for students to deal with things that are happening in their lives, both inside and outside of school. I take a short-term, solution-focused approach to help students overcome any barriers impeding the learning process. Individual counseling is available to ALL students in need at the request of the student, parent, or staff member. If a student is in need of additional support, it is my goal to help connect students and their families with outside resources.
Some students may benefit from working in a group setting with peers who are experiencing similar life events. These groups normally take place during lunch or free time. If your student is chosen for a small group, a parent permission form will be sent home. In order for your student to participate, the permission form must be signed and returned to the School Counselor before the start date.
The Guidance curriculum is taught through classroom lessons that are aligned with the ASCA National Model. These lessons are used as preventative measures that focus on the developmental needs of students. Some examples of guidance lessons may include academic support, goal setting, career awareness, peer relationships, conflict resolution, empathy, etc.
