When a bubble ascends in an electric field, vortices form due to variations in electrical conductivity and permittivity ratios. These vortices cause deformation. In column (a) without an electric field, no vortices are seen during bubble ascent. In columns (b) and (c) with an electric field, (b) depicts horizontal deformation, while (c) shows vertical deformation. Clear vortices appear outside the bubble in both cases. Performance of pump under cavitation: The significance of secondary passages on the cavitation predictions, vortices, type of instabilities in the inducer and radial forces generated by the inducer and impeller are studied. It is observed that it significantly impacts the predictions. This study stresses the need for incorporating the secondary passages even at the design stages. This study also highlights the possibility of cavitation instability type manipulation by adding or removing the working fluid in a controlled manner in the inducer to reduce cavity volume as well as amplitude of pressure fluctuations.
