AP Physics C
Option 1: Fast-Paced Dual Course:
This option is designed for students who are able to learn complex concepts at a fast pace and are able to commit a significant amount of time outside of class (approximately 10 hours per week in addition to class time). Students should have already completed an introductory course in physics (including both mechanics and electricity/magnetism) and AP Calculus (AB or BC, but BC is recommended). Students should enjoy the challenge of solving complex problems that require creative techniques. Students must have high executive functioning skills and must be comfortable using paper and pencil to work out solutions to problems (see FAQ regarding digital work). This course is open to students aged 13+. Consideration will be given to younger students on a case by case basis and requires the recommendation of a teacher from a previous AP course. Students must earn a minimum score on a placement test that will assess conceptual understanding of basic mechanics and electricity/magnetism concepts as well as the ability to solve simple calculus problems. Option 2: Full-Year Mechanics:
This option is designed for students who desire the rigor of AP Physics C Mechanics but either have less time to commit or have a weaker understanding of introductory physics. More time will be spent developing each of the concepts and practicing example problems in class. Students will still need to commit to approximately 5 hours per week in addition to class time. Students should have already completed an introductory course in physics (mechanics only is sufficient) and AP Calculus (AB is sufficient). Students should enjoy the challenge of solving complex problems that require creative techniques. Students must have high executive functioning skills and must be comfortable using paper and pencil to work out solutions to problems (see FAQ regarding digital work). Option 3: Parent-Graded Course:
This option is designed for students who wish to audit an AP Physics C course (no grade) or for students who have a parent/guardian or other close contact who is capable of providing appropriate feedback to their work. Since there are no scheduled class meetings or submissions for this option, it is recommended only for students who are able to adhere to a self-directed learning schedule.

AP Physics 1
Option 1: AP Physics 1:
This course is designed to be similar to the first college physics course taken by life science and computer science majors. Unlike AP Physics C, it uses math only through algebra, geometry, and trigonometry (no calculus). It may be taken as a first course in physics for students who have strong math and logical thinking skills. However, prior exposure to physics concepts will reduce the conceptual workload for students. In addition to providing possible college credit for algebra-based physics, AP Physics 1 provides a strong foundation for future studies in calculus-based physics. The course emphasizes deep conceptual understanding and application of concepts to new situations rather than memorization of problem-solving techniques. Students should be able to commit a significant amount of time outside of class (approximately 6 hours per week in addition to class time). Students should have already completed Algebra 2, Geometry, and have familiarity with the trigonometric functions. Students should enjoy the challenge of solving complex problems that require creative techniques. Students must have high executive functioning skills and must be comfortable using paper and pencil to work out solutions to problems (see FAQ regarding digital work). This course is open to students aged 13+. Consideration will be given to younger students on a case by case basis and requires the recommendation of a teacher from a previous AP course.
