The project delivers value beyond product development by generating economic growth, environmental benefits, and social impact. Through innovation, sustainability, and collaboration, it supports the responsible valorisation of thermal resources while strengthening regional competitiveness and long-term sector development.
The project will enable the development of a portfolio of six cosmetic products while reducing unit production costs through scalable manufacturing processes.
Two of the formulations will be developed as concentrated solid cosmetics, designed to be reconstituted directly at thermal spas, reducing industrial operating costs by an estimated 20%, while increasing product shelf life and lowering transportation, storage, and packaging requirements. The remaining four formulations will be manufactured centrally using shared raw material procurement and energy-efficient production processes, resulting in an anticipated 12% reduction in production costs.
In addition, optimized inventory management and the sharing of raw materials and packaging across multiple product lines will minimize waste, reduce stock losses, and enable more efficient purchasing strategies, further strengthening the economic viability of thermal cosmetic production.
The project contributes to increasing awareness of the benefits of natural mineral waters and promoting the recognition of their unique properties as valuable resources for health, wellness, and preventive care. By supporting the development of innovative cosmetic products, the initiative helps strengthen the attractiveness of thermal destinations, encouraging health and wellness tourism across the Centre region of Portugal and the wider Iberian market.
Furthermore, the project fosters collaboration among thermal operators, reinforces the thermal wellness ecosystem, and improves consumer access to high-quality, value-added products derived from scientifically validated endogenous resources.
The project promotes a sustainable approach throughout the entire value chain, from the selection of raw materials and packaging to manufacturing and distribution. By prioritising environmentally responsible materials and implementing shared-resource production models, it reduces waste generation and optimises resource use. The adoption of a short supply chain strategy, with a preference for Iberian suppliers, helps minimise transportation-related emissions and lower the overall carbon footprint of the products.
Additionally, the use of low-carbon distribution solutions further supports environmental sustainability. By valorising thermal waters as high-value cosmetic ingredients, the project encourages the responsible and non-intensive use of these natural resources, contributing to the preservation of local ecosystems while creating lasting environmental and economic value.
SDG - Sustainable Development Goals
The project supports the development of innovative thermal cosmetic solutions inspired by the therapeutic properties of natural mineral waters, contributing to the promotion of health, wellbeing, and wellness tourism. By enhancing the value of this endogenous resource, it helps strengthen the attractiveness and competitiveness of thermal destinations.
The project is led by a company founded and managed by two women, having grown through its own investment and entrepreneurial vision. As such, it serves as an example of female leadership in innovation and industry, contributing to the promotion of equal opportunities and encouraging greater participation of women in business leadership, decision-making, and technology-driven sectors.
The project contributes to regional economic development through the creation of skilled employment opportunities and the retention of qualified talent in the region. By leveraging innovation and sustainability as key drivers of growth, it supports the competitiveness and expansion of SMEs while fostering a more resilient and value-driven industrial ecosystem.
Furthermore, the project promotes a model of sustainable growth by developing high-value products and business opportunities that decouple economic progress from environmental impact, demonstrating that innovation, competitiveness, and sustainability can advance together.
The project supports the growth of a more innovative and sustainable industrial sector by promoting resource-efficient manufacturing practices and the adoption of environmentally responsible production processes. It also strengthens research and technological capabilities within the cosmetics and thermal wellness industries, fostering innovation and increasing investment in research and development activities.
By creating opportunities for highly skilled employment and knowledge-driven growth, the project contributes to enhancing the competitiveness of the Centre region of Portugal and other inland territories, supporting the transition towards a more resilient and innovation-based economy.
The project promotes sustainable manufacturing through resource-efficient production processes and proactive waste reduction strategies. By optimising resource sharing across product lines and minimising production losses, it contributes to a more circular and efficient use of materials.
These practices are fully aligned with ESG principles, reinforcing HPRD's commitment to environmental responsibility, sustainable growth, and the development of innovative cosmetic solutions with a reduced environmental footprint.
