Your child will need to obtain an instrument to take lessons. Most families will rent the instrument for the first year because of the quality of the instrument and it is cost effective. We advise against purchasing an instrument for the first year beacuase your child is locked into their instrument choice. If you rent the instrument, your child may switch during the school year and maintenance of the instrument is included.
If you already have an instrument available to you, please be sure it is in good working condition.
Our recommendation is to use Music and Arts to rent an instrument.

We recommend renting through Music and Arts. They provide excellent quality instruments for a one time fee for the whole school year. Most instruments cost a one time fee of $160 for the whole school year.
You can fill out the rental form online and it will be ready for you to pick up at a local store in usually just a few days. You can also choose to have the instrument shipped to your house for free. Please do not have the instrument shipped to the school.
Hint: Choose our state, Maryland, first, then type the school name; in some cases leaving off the period after St seems to work best.
What is included:
Instrument rental for the whole school year
Instrument maintenance and repair as needed throughout the school year
A music stand for you to keep
This is a rent to own program. If you continue to rent through this program, you will eventually own the instrument. After the first school year, it will turn into a monthly fee towards the purchase.
This rental program allows you the flexibility to switch to a different instrument during the rental period.
If you choose to rent elsewhere or use an instrument that you already have, please stay in touch so I can make sure it is OK for your child.
Clarinet and Saxophone students should also plan on purchasing a box of Rico reeds size 2.
