Process
Step 1: Who are Survivors and Resisters?
Step 2: Complete the Video Graphic Organizer
Watch the following six short videos. Three are on survivors of the Holocaust, while the other three are on resisters of the Holocaust. As you watch, fill out your provided Video Graphic Organizer.
Survivors of the Holocaust
Resisters of the Holocaust
Step 3: Read Your Corresponding Article
After reviewing all six survivors and resisters, decide who you believe is the most inspiring. Read the corresponding article below for the one individual you choose. Click the name below the document to visit the website that hosts the article and begin reading. If you would like to have the article read to you, click the document picture and select "Google Read & Write" in the top righthand corner of your school Chromebook's browser. Highlight the document text and click "play" in the Google Read & Write toolbar. If you need help, try this video for assistance or ask your teacher.
Step 4: Find Evidence to Answer the Prompt
Once you are finished reading the article about your chosen survivor or resister, go back and find evidence from the article that supports the informational writing prompt: Discuss two ways in which your chosen survivor or resister's story is inspiring. This will be the subject of your summative essay! Once you find TWO supporting pieces of evidence, write them down next to your person's name on your Video Graphic Organizer.
Step 5: Write an Informational Essay
We've written quite a few essays this year, working on how to write introductions, body paragraphs, and conclusions. Using your writing knowledge from previous essays and practice writings, construct a FOUR paragraph essay answering the following prompt:
Discuss two ways in which your chosen survivor or resister's story is inspiring.
Your essay should include an introduction paragraph, TWO body paragraphs, and a conclusion paragraph. Use the provided Essay Organizer Outline located in Google Classroom to structure your essay. You will be turning in your complete essay (in outline form) for a summative grade.
