Theme Basics
Some things that should be included in any Survivor theme are dice rolls using the roll function built into PS, chance, and a clear way to determine a winner. Also, your theme should be a creative idea that does not already exist.
Writing a Theme
Make sure your theme is easy to read, learn, and understand for players and hosts. Otherwise, it might make people not want to play your theme if it seems too complicated. It would also be a good idea to provide an example attack for your theme that can show visually what will happen during the game.
Fairness
All themes should give all players a fair chance of winning at the start of the game. Try to avoid creating a theme where one player or team is overpowered.
Modifications
Some ideas for themes end up being pretty simple and can be applied to multiple themes. If this is the case, then we call the idea a modification and allow hosts to apply it to their theme to change things up a bit. A modification can also be a theme that is pretty similar to an already existing theme but is slightly different. If you attempt to create a new theme, be aware of the themes and modifications that already exist and be aware of whether or not your idea would be best as a theme or a modification.
Getting Your Theme or Mod Approved
To start hosting your theme/mod in the room, create some documentation (unless the mod is 1-2 lines long, a short text blurb will suffice), and send it to a staff member for approval. The staff member will discuss the theme/mod with the rest of the staff team, and get back to you via a message (or offlinepm).
Note: Make sure to include the documentation/text blurb in the room when hosting your new theme/mod. This is paramount.
After getting approval from a staff member to host your theme/mod, the staff team will review if the theme/mod is polished and balanced enough to be added to the site. If it is not, criticism and/or feedback will be given.
Criticism
If there are ways to improve on your theme idea or necessary changes that need to be made to make the theme’s mechanics work, be open to hearing out these ideas. While you may disagree with some ideas if they aren’t necessary, it is important to have an open mind as more people look at and think about your idea. Refusal to make certain changes, if they are necessary, may result in your theme getting rejected.
