December 3rd 2023 Hosting Workshop!
@EasyOnTheHills: Welcome everyone!
@EasyOnTheHills: Hope you all have been enjoying Hosting Day
@EasyOnTheHills: We all know survivor, we all love survivor
@EasyOnTheHills: But what not everyone knows...
@EasyOnTheHills: Is how to host survivor
@EasyOnTheHills: Now, we do have a guide on how to host on the site, but today I'll be breaking it down a little more in depth
@EasyOnTheHills: We'll go step by step in the hosting process, from being .hosted all the way to you doing .win at the end
@EasyOnTheHills: Hopefully this will help all aspiring hosts out there see how it's done and have an easier time getting into hosting :P
@EasyOnTheHills: /announce Step 1
@EasyOnTheHills: Right after you are set as the host, you must get your players into a list, this is called the Player List (or PL for short)
@EasyOnTheHills: If you are on desktop, this can be done so fairly easily by using the tab key!
@EasyOnTheHills: If you don't know, if you type the first few letters of someones username then press tab, it will auto complete the username for you
@EasyOnTheHills: After all the players do /me in, you can now assemble your PL
@EasyOnTheHills: PL [9]: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto
@EasyOnTheHills: Once this is set, you can choose to keep signups open for a couple minutes longer, or move right on to choosing a theme
@EasyOnTheHills: I would recommend trying to always have the signups closed around 5 minutes after signups begin
@EasyOnTheHills: You can easily keep track of this with the .timer command
@EasyOnTheHills: Now signups have closed, you will choose a theme
@EasyOnTheHills: For this example, we will use the theme Hunger Games
@EasyOnTheHills: Once you have decided on the theme, let the players know using the .theme command, like so
@EasyOnTheHills: .theme hunger games
*Sir. Vivor: Hunger Games: Classic but with a twist: No alliances. Game rules: https://sites.google.com/view/survivor-ps/themes/hunger-games
@EasyOnTheHills: The PL is set, the theme is decided, now it is time to begin the game!
@EasyOnTheHills: /announce Step 2
@EasyOnTheHills: This is where things can vary depending on the theme, however hunger games is the most universal, so this should work for basically any theme you do
@EasyOnTheHills: Start by announcing Round 1 has begun and ask for attacks, post the PL to highlight your players, then set a timer for attacks to be sent by
@EasyOnTheHills: Round 1 begins! Send attacks!
@EasyOnTheHills: PL [9]: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto
@EasyOnTheHills: .timer 1
*Sir. Vivor: Timer set for 1 minute.
@EasyOnTheHills: .timer end
*Sir. Vivor: The timer has been ended.
@EasyOnTheHills: I would recommend anywhere from 1-2 minutes for attacks to be sent
@EasyOnTheHills: You want to make sure the game doesn't drag on, but also want to give a fair amount of time to the players
@EasyOnTheHills: Now all of the players have sent you an attack, time to do the first round
@EasyOnTheHills: you can shuffle the PL to decide attack order by using the .shuffle command
@EasyOnTheHills: .shuffle Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto
Mercury, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Earth, Venus, Pluto, Mars, Jupiter
@EasyOnTheHills: Now, keeping track of 9 players attacks can be difficult
@EasyOnTheHills: An easy way to keep track of this is when attacks are sent to you, minimize the PM box. Then when you need to check and see who that player attacked, open the PM box to see
@EasyOnTheHills: That way you can always have access to all the players attacks right on the left side of your screen
@EasyOnTheHills: You also can turn on the feature on PS which shows your PMs in main chat (still private ofcourse)
@EasyOnTheHills: Time for attacks!
@EasyOnTheHills: Mercury attacks Pluto!
@EasyOnTheHills: For Mercury:
@EasyOnTheHills: .roll 100
Roll (1 - 100): 29
@EasyOnTheHills: For Pluto:
@EasyOnTheHills: .roll 100
Roll (1 - 100): 56
@EasyOnTheHills: Pluto says "I am a real planet!" and knocks Mercury out of orbit!
@EasyOnTheHills: As you can see in the example, I am always bolding text that is relevant to the host, this is important to help the players more easily follow along with what is happening
@EasyOnTheHills: Generally, you want to always bold attacks and results of attacks
@EasyOnTheHills: After round 1 ends, update the PL with the remaining players then move on to the next round
@EasyOnTheHills: PL [5]: Venus, Jupiter, Saturn, Neptune, Pluto
@EasyOnTheHills: Round 2 begins! Send attacks!
@EasyOnTheHills: .timer 1
*Sir. Vivor: Timer set for 1 minute.
@EasyOnTheHills: .timer end
*Sir. Vivor: The timer has been ended.
@EasyOnTheHills: And that's about it! Hosting is a fairly simple and straightforward process in survivor
@EasyOnTheHills: The main thing is always making sure you're hosts are clean and easy to follow for the players, and that you are always keeping track of players actions
@EasyOnTheHills: To newer hosts I would recommend always starting off easy with Hunger Games, then working your way to harder themes as you get better
@EasyOnTheHills: And remember that hosting is not a race, take your time with it and as you get more used to hosting you will naturally become faster at it!Â
