Superior Sister City Commission

2022 is the Year of the Tiger.

We wish all of our Sister City friends a very happy new year, and hope that we can resume our activities as soon as it is safe to do so. Unfortunately, due to the ongoing pandemic, we are not able to hold a 2022 Shinnenkai
(New Year Celebration).

Welcome and Youkoso!

Welcome to the Superior Sister City Commission Website. We’d like to introduce our organization, share information about our activities, a little bit about the history of our Sister City relationship, and the culture of Ami-machi, Japan. We hope you will visit often to find out about our latest efforts, and we hope you will be inspired to get involved. See our calendar on the left, and feel free to make a donation to help support intercultural exchange and awareness!

Our Mission

  • To promote peace through mutual respect, understanding, & cooperation — one individual, one community at a time.

  • To share the culture of our Sister City with the people of Superior, Wisconsin and the surrounding area.

  • To promote exchanges of people and ideas between our two communities.

In support of this mission, the Mayors of Superior and Ami-machi renewed our Protocol Agreement in November 2020.

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a worldwide impact, and forced the cancellation of the delegation visit from Superior to Ami scheduled for August 2020. We look forward to sending a delegation to Ami-machi in 2022.
