We ended a unit on paper arts with paper weaving. All students created a folded, slightly sculptural bookmark to use for our favorite books.
7th Graders last week finished up their Huichol Bead art inspired by the works of Jalisco and Nayarit in the Mountains of Mexico. We created a milagro (meaningful object) out of clay and then used wax resin to push beads to produce designs.
Our projects for collage this year incorporated our reactions to the covid pandemic. We used word art and Balanced Symmetry for our organizing properties.
Students explored landscapes this week with the use of graphite pencil sets, blending stumps, and eraser methods. Our goals were to improve our ability to observe details and recreate them using directional mark making, diverse textures, and full values in our 'recreations'.
Students constructed a wall vase/pocket using clay and slab building techniques.
We drew on paper and dictionary pages last week using a variety of types of graphite pencils to develop our work.
We did some organized pattern drawings.....zentangles! If you've never tried it - you should. Its contemplative, relaxing, and requires a good pen and time. Enjoy checking these ones we did out.
Students worked hard to gather likenesses, replicate what they saw, and mixing colors accurately for this assignment.
Students designed a bookmark that focused on composition, design and had a theme. We used repurposed imagery from magazines, etc. and used mosh posh to put a clear finish on them!
Students this week worked on a watercolor wash and gel pen artwork. They could chose a landscape of their choice and our focus was finding values (lightness and darkness of colors) as we move into a painting unit.
Students used mixed media (more than one material) and collage to produce an artwork that involved layering.
Students worked with pencil and graphite to produce shade, texture, and proportional studies of objects.
Last week students used color pencil and observational skills to do miniature studies of master landscape artists. Each of them did two little landscapes trying to replace color use in color pencils using color blends.
Students just recently finished work that employed structured and coordinated patterns. We used sharpie and pen and discovered professional works of zentangle, then produced our own.
