Objective

To provide research mentorship experience for PhD students and postdocs to help students gain research experience through research summer camps.

Target applicants

Experienced PhD students and postdocs with machine learning publications who want to help international students.

Why are we doing this

If you are a college student , you must know the struggle to get to where you are now in your research career. However, many college students have direct way to learn the essential lessons in how to do research, and thus many talents are wasted. To fill this information asymmetry, a group of PhD student, Professor, industry Machine Learning leader started the Sunstella Summer Research Fellowship. This program aims to help college students to get a jump-start in their research career by pairing them with experienced researchers (PhD students, postdoc, industry scientists) to do a research project over the summer.

What are we asking

We are now looking for volunteers to be mentors in our program. As a mentor, you will help change the life of students by doing the following:

• Host 1-hour mentoring session per week during summer 2023.

• Prepare the description of one or more small research projects of your interest that can be done in 3 months.

• Mentor your mentee(s) to deliver a research project by completing a manuscript and recording a project presentation.

• Participate in monthly virtual networking meetings.

• Help share our program through your social networks

What are you getting out of this

• Mentorship experience: You will gain valuable mentorship experience to prepare for your future career as a professor or industry leader.

• Connections: You will make connections to other like-minded individuals and researchers through this program, which can benefit your career in the long term.

• Award: A small award to you through the research fellowship. As a non-profit organization, we will provide a stipend for your hard work (through grant/scholarship).
