About Us
Sunshine Jewelry was created due to a lack of affordable jewelry available for resale at the resort I used to work in. One of my duties as assistant manager at one of Belize's premier resorts was to manage the gift shop. It was difficult to consistently get the jewelry pieces we needed. Being the 'Yes I Can !' person that I am, and trusting in my innate inclination for art and crafts, I researched thoroughly about techniques and sourcing materials. I gave it a try, not expecting something spectacular, but rather hoping to fill a need and my duties at work. Also, this would be an opportunity to calm my newfound enthusiasm for exploring and learning another art. This was right up my alley as I was interested in jewelry making in my teens. After a few months of research and preparation, I started to create.
My first piece, which was a coffee bean set, did not turn out the way I planned due to lack of the material I was looking for but it was amazing! I instantly fell in love. The tought of putting up for sale broke my heart but I fell in love with so many other pieces I made. I could not stop myself from creating more. The pieces were all so unique and looked stunning on me. I had seen so many throughout my experience in retail that I was rarely surprised by any jewelry pices any more. My expectations were far exceeded. With that drive, and my creativity flowing, I made a stunning collection of coffee bean and sea glass jewelry with materials sourced from both the district and the resort itself.
As the people around me saw the pieces I created, I got in orders for other pieces. It made me really happy to see the expression on the faces of the women I created for. Having love and admiration for those same women ,as I was aware of some of their personal challenges and their hard work, I felt all the more joy knowing how much they loved and cherished the pieces and how beautiful they felt while they wore it.
One of our gifts , my first children's set even caused the baby to cry when she was asked to take it off. This is how I discovered how special and beautiful other's thought the jewelry was and how creating these pieces could bring some 'sunshine' in the lives of others. I not only liked the feeling it gave me when creating, as I remembered those people and bore good intentions for them ,but there was a lingering good feeling as those beautiful memories, hopes, and good intentions lingered after. They say it is in giving that we receive, and while my jewelry certainly gave 'sunshine' to beautiful people, It also brought 'sunshine' into my own life.
Today, I create for children, women , and men. Apparently, my jewelry is as appealing to men as it is for the ladies. I'm always surprised by new creations and equally surprised at how much other seem to love it. My customers have even had their jewelry taken by other family members who love them so much! Although I know they have a hard time parting with their pieces, I know it brings joy to them sharing their jewelry. As I see what my customers like, I get inspired, get new ideas to create even more. I hope that you can find something here that can also make you feel special or something special you want to gift a loved one.
Hi,
Welcome to Sunshine Jewelry!
I'm Marlene, and I'm passionate about inspiring positivity and bringing 'sunshine' to the world. Creating beautiful jewelry with unique and meaningful materials allows me to share 'sunshine' with others. I create all pieces with the hope they inspire others to identify and share their own inner beauty and inner light. The jewelry I create is made with lots of love, good intentions, and hope for the person who will wear it. For me personally, it is such a special feeling to know I wear a piece of jewelry that represents something significant in my life. For example, I have a set with the infinity sign made to represent the very special bond I have with my husband and is a reminder to endure and be patient to achieve a partnership that lasts 'For Time and all Eternity' not only 'till death do us part.' When I wear it, it not only reminds me of what I hope for and work toward but also the joy I have experienced and will continue to experience infinitely.
While not all pieces are as symbolic or something quite as personal, the materials also represent the beauty of Belize, and for visitors that take them home as gifts; it's like taking a piece of Belize with them and a reminder of good times here under the warm sun.
