Inaugural SCNHS Bird Walk along Fence Trail at Airport
Saturday 11 April 2026
led by
John Hodges
(turn left at top of Field Road and follow road to end)
This will be a one way hike along the outside of the airport fence, ending at the North Gate (used by astronomers and drag racers). Before we start we will take a couple of cars to leave at the North Gate and at the end of the walk the drivers of those vehicles will take the other drivers back to the main gate so that they can pick up their passengers. There is room for only 2 vehicles to be left at the North Gate.
The original part of the trail is uneven in places and there is a section where the trail crosses a steep slope. This walk is not recommended for those with a poor sense of balance.
The part of the trail which the society has been working on recently is uneven and wet in places. The worst sections have planks installed as bridges, but it is still advisable to wear waterproof boots.
