In essence, the CHS is a club that intends to bring a myriad of novel opportunities and experiences to Sunset students. We aim to make volunteering as easy, accessible, and rewarding as possible.
The Chinese Heritage Society [CHS] is a club that aims to uplift communities through community service and cultural advocacy. We seek to foster a sense of respect and appreciation among people of different cultures, backgrounds, and perspectives, and aim to share China’s rich and diverse history, traditions, and arts- both in Sunset High School and in the Oregon area. We strive to contribute to the well-being of our local and global communities through various service projects and events, and in doing so, we aspire to create a positive impact and a lasting legacy for future generations.
We work with the Oregon Chinese Coalition (OCC) and a multitude of partner organizations to bring an unparalleled range of volunteer and activity opportunities to students, both within and outside of Sunset High School. There are dozens of open, non-committal options for volunteering, with creative, journalistic, health, and mentoring opportunities available. Additionally, we offer multiple leadership positions and awards. Learn more.
The Chinese Heritage Society is an official subsidiary club of the Oregon Chinese Coalition (OCC), an accomplished local nonprofit organization that is dedicated to serving and educating communities in the greater Oregon area. Founded in 2023, The CHS is seeking to bring unique volunteering opportunities to the students of Sunset High School and work with the Oregon Chinese Coalition to maximize the opportunities available to them.
"Our mission is to build a vibrant community by promoting Chinese culture and heritage, serving the Chinese American community in Oregon, and ensuring that no one is left behind. We strive to advance our community’s interests through advocacy, education, and engagement while fostering a sense of belonging and inclusivity for all." Visit the OCC Website.
Meet Our Team
Hi! I'm Brian- I'm a Junior here at Sunset. In my brief time with the OCC, I've had many great experiences as both a volunteer and an individual. After getting to see firsthand just how much the OCC can do for its community and volunteers, I wanted to find a way to share it with the students at Sunset, which led to the formation of this club. I hope to talk to you soon!
Hi Everyone, I'm Aaron, currently a junior at sunset. When I'm not knee-deep in code, I'm always looking for ways to lend a hand in the community. That's why the CHS is awesome – it connects students with tons of volunteer opportunities, and there's something for everyone! Whether you're into health fairs or mentoring younger kids, the CHS has a way to get you involved and make a real difference. Let's build a stronger community together!
Hello, I'm Morgan and a junior at Sunset.
