This section will tell you what you need before you start this process.
Pick or create a Google account in which you wish to use the Sunrise-ActionNetwork Integration. This account will own the Volunteer Tracking Sheet for your whole Hub.
In order for the integration to communicate with your Sunrise Hub's Action Network account, it will need your Action Network account's API Key. To find this key, log into your Action Network account. Hover over the "Start Organizing" button at the top. In the menu that appears, click on "API & Sync". This will open the API & Sync page. On this page, look on the left side, under the header "Your API Key". There will be a grey box with a long string of characters in it. That is your API Key. You will need it in the Initialize section.
There are certain fields and a form that the integration expects to exist in your Hub's Action Network account. The integration cannot make them itself. The fields should already exist as fields inherited from the National account. But you will need to create the Outreach Form before you initialize the integration. This form will receive the Call/Text column updates from the Google Sheet. To do so, it must have the expected fields. To start, make a new Form in Action Network. You are free to set the name and description to whatever you like. But you must edit the form to have the field set shown below. Once you've saved and published this form, you'll need to get the ID. To do this, go to the Form's "Manage" page. Towards the bottom right you should see a value labeled "API ENDPOINT". The URL there is what you'll need in the Initialization step.
This section will tell you how to set up the Sunrise-ActionNetwork Integration in your Google Drive.
To start, open up your desired Google Drive account. Create a folder named "Sunrise Member Data". In that folder create a new spreadsheet named "Sunrise Hub Volunteer Tracking Sheet". If these names are not exact, the integration will not work.
From within your new spreadsheet, go to the "Add-ons" menu between "Tools" and "Help". Click on "Get Add-ons". In the Google marketplace that opens, search for "SAN Integration". Find the result with Sunrise imagery and install it.
Once the Add-on is installed, open the "Add-ons" menu in your "Sunrise Hub Volunteer Tracking Sheet" spreadsheet once more. This time, go to the new "SAN Integration" option and click on "Set Up Integration". The integration will ask for your API Key. Enter your API Key in the field provided and click OK. The integration will ask for the API Endpoint of your Outreach form. Enter the value you found on the "Manage" page of your Outreach Form. From here, the integration will take some time finish setting up. Action Network's API is not particularly fast and Google only allows an add-on to do so much processing at once, so you will need to wait multiple hours for all the functions to finish. You will know everthing is complete when the Volunteers tab has data in it.
This section will tell you how to make sure the Sunrise-ActionNetwork Integration set-up succeeded and how to monitor the integration in the future.
Make sure the following sheets all exist in your spreadsheet and that they have content in them:
Perform tests to make sure the integration is up and running. You should perform these tests on your own profile in Action Network so that you don't accidentally mess up someone else's real data. And unfortunately, the second test will have a significant waiting component. The relevant services are limited by Google's add-on environment and the speed of the Action Network API, just like the Initialization was.
Test 1: Open the Sunrise Hub Volunteer Tracking Sheet and go to the Volunteers sheet. Find the row with your information. Make an edit in all of the editable cells. Go to "Add-ons" > "SAN Integration" > "Push Data to AN". Wait 2 minutes and then find your profile in Action Network. Check that your profile has all the edits you made in the spreadsheet earlier.
Test 2: Open Action Network and find your profile. Add a Tag to your profile that wasn't already there. Wait until the next morning. Find your row in the Volunteers sheet. Check that the new Tag made it across to the spreadsheet.
