At the Hu Group, we explore the fascinating world of perovskites, from the atomic scale to working solar cells — and sometimes, we think big by growing single crystals! We synthesise novel perovskite materials, grow large single crystals for neutron scattering to uncover how atoms vibrate and interact, and investigate crystallisation in real time using the powerful X-rays at Diamond Light Source. We also design and develop more sustainable perovskite solar cells using carbon electrodes, and explore quasi-2D perovskites to understand the fundamental chemistry and physics behind their remarkable properties.
From growing crystals to catching crystallisation in action, we connect fundamental science with real-world technology. By combining materials chemistry, advanced characterisation and device engineering, we’re curious about what makes perovskites tick — and how we can put that knowledge to work for a brighter, more sustainable future.
