Wonmo Sung (성원모)

Wonmo is an applied physicist in medicine. He is an Associate Professor of Biomedical Engineering and Medical Sciences, College of Medicine at The Catholic University of Korea. As a bio-physicist by training with radiation research interests, his goal is to analyze, debug, and engineer the biological effects of radiation. He has received the 2019 ASTRO translational science award for modeling immune responses to radiation.  His lab is funded by NRF and several foundations.

Before joining Catholic University, he was a Research Fellow at Harvard Medical School / Massachusetts General Hospital(MGH), advised by Harald Paganetti, Jan Schuemann, and Clemens Grassberger. He received an MS/PhD from Seoul National University, advised by Sung-Joon Ye and Il Han Kim, and a BS in physics from KAIST. He also has clinical experience at MGH, as well as Jeju and Seoul National University Hospitals.

His research focuses on medical physics, biophysics, radiation dosimetry, and molecular imaging. He is voluntarily serving as the science committee member of the ESTRO meets Asia, Asia-Oceania Federation of Organizations for Medical Physics (AFOMP), Korean Society of Medical Physics (KSMP), and the editor of the Journal of Radiation Protection and Research (JRPR).

In his free time, Wonmo enjoys spending quality moments with his family, exploring Seoul’s urban landscape through activities like hiking and swimming. He hopes to bring these experiences to his team as well.
