NEW COURSES FOR 19-20 SCHOOL YEAR

AP ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE

Full Year Class – Grades 10-12

Advanced Placement Environmental Science is designed to be the equivalent of an introductory college course in environmental science. Environmental science is an interdisciplinary course in that it integrates a wide range of topics including earth science, biology, chemistry, sociology and economics. Core scientific principles, concepts, and methodologies required for understanding the environment will be presented to the students in this class. The primary themes of this course include: science as a process, the earth is one interconnected system, humans alter natural systems, environmental problems involve social and cultural issues, and the concept of environmental stewardship and system sustainability.

Prerequisites include the following: completion of Algebra 1 and Biology with a 90% or higher or completion of Honors Algebra 1 and Honors or AP Biology with an 80% or higher. Chemistry must also be taken as a pre- or co-requisite.

SCHOOL-BASED ENTERPRISE

Full Year Class – Grades 10-12

Students would learn how to research a market, develop business plans, merchandising, buying, inventory, and pricing, cash handling, promotion, general security, customer service, effective management. Students will apply these tasks utilizing the school store.

COMPUTER SCIENCE ESSENTIALS

Full Year Class – Grades 9-12

Computer Science Essentials Computer Science Essentials exposes students to a diverse set of computational thinking concepts, fundamentals, and tools, allowing them to gain understanding and build confidence. Students use visual, blockbased programming and seamlessly transition to text-based programming with languages such as Python® to create apps and develop websites, and learn how to make computers work together to put their design into practice. They apply computational thinking practices, build their vocabulary, and collaborate just as computing professionals do to create products that address topics and problems important to them.
