Facilities and Equipment
Facility or sumo arena is shown on th e far left side that is 15m in diameter and raised on a block of clay 2.5 above the ground.
An equipment they use is called mawashi that they wear around their waist.
Rules and Officiating
Each sumo must do a ceremonial ritual and throw salt in the ring
Both wrestlers must crouch with fist touching the floor until the referee starts the match
Once one of the players is forced out of ring the match is over
Players can lose a fight by using a illegal technique or if their belt become undone
no hair pulling, punching, striking the ears, choking, attacking the groin area
Special Skills and Strategy
Can win a match by:
Pushing the opponent out of the ring
Grabbing opponets belt and pushing them out of the ring
Forcing the opponent to the floor
Pushing: Stay low and push forward
Thrusting: Helpful movement to keep opponent at a distance
Forcing out: main movement used for sumo
Throws: aka pivoting throws, target opponent's hinge joints
Lifting: used to dominate the match
Yori-Kiri: Gripping opponent and pushing them out of the ring
Oshi-Dashi: Smash into opponent and push them out of the ring
Uwate-Nage: Grabe outside of the belt and flip opponent down
Tsuri-Dashi: Grab opponent's belt and lift them out of the ring
Hiki-Taoshi: Opponent charges towards you grab his arm and pull him down
Soto-Gake: Wrap leg around opponent and trip them down
Suso-Harai: sweep the back of the opponent leg to make them lose balance
Okuri-Dashi: rear push out
Tsuki-dashi: Force opponent backwards and push them out of ring with thrusts and slaps
Harite: using slapping to distract opponent
Nodowa: Throat thrust
Ottsuke: aka arm clamp down to block opponent's attack
