Destiny Discover is the eBook and Audiobook platform that is supplied through Rocky View Schools, which means that our school buys all of the books available to our students. You are welcome to suggest a book for our school library by following the link below!
The Destiny App can be downloaded on Kindle, Nook, Android, Apple iOS, Mac OS X and Windows.

There are two ways to login to Destiny. By following the provided links, you will be taken to this page. From here, please click the "Login" button on the top right corner of the page.

Your username is the the same as the beginning of your school email and the password is your student ID number. If you are having any issues logging in, please reach out to your Learning Commons Facilitator.

If you can't locate the link for our school Destiny page, you can always search Destiny Discover in your internet browser. That should take you to the screen shown above.

Searching for a Book
Main Page
From the main page on Destiny, you can look at different collections such as Fantasy, Horror, Mystery and more. You can also search by audiobook or ebook, depending on what you're looking for. This is also where you'd access your account details.

You can search for your book using the main search function. Type your search term into the search bar at the top of the Destiny screen and either click the Search button or press enter.

When using the main search function, you can also limit your results by choosing the type of book you're looking for. There are more options in the drop down menu to the left of the search bar, but we only have eBooks and Audiobooks in our collection.

If you are unable to find what you're looking for using the main search function, you can always use the Advanced Search. Click the icon to the left of the Search button to open the Advanced Search.
You can limit your search by format (either eBook or Audiobook), reading program, as well as interest levels and reading levels.
Placing an Item on Hold
If an item you want is signed out, you can place it on hold by clicking the button that says "Hold" or clicking the three dots and then selecting "Hold".
Opening a Book - Previewing Before You Checkout
Previewing a Book
When you are looking for a book, you might not want to sign it out right away because you don't know if it would be a good fit. Click the "Open" button on the bottom left of a book to open a preview of the book. If you like the book, click "Checkout" in the bottom right of the book.
Book Preview
To see more details about a book, click on the cover image of the book. It will open a tab on the right side of the page that includes a summary of the book, interest level, author, and more. You can open the book to preview it by clicking "Open" or sign out the book by clicking "Checkout". Clicking the heart will add the book to your Favourites. You can share the book with a friend by clicking the three dots next to the heart and selecting "Share".
If you are wanting more information like what subjects the book has, reviews, publication information, or if you need to cite the book for a paper, click "View More Details".
Preview
The preview of the book will look the same as when you checkout the book. The main difference is that the preview will stop after a number of pages and you won't be able to continue reading the book unless you check it out.

Clicking on a title of the book will take you to the book details page. From here you can see all of the information you may need about the book.

Under the "Explore" tab underneath the overview will show you the subjects (or topics) that are in the book. If you click on those subjects, Destiny will show you books in our collection that have the same subjects in it.
"More Info" will show you the publication information on the book, like when it was published, what format it is (eBook or audiobook), and the interest level.
Adding to Favourites
Click the heart icon or click the three dots and select "Favourite" to add the book to your Favourites list.
Checking out a Book
Once you have clicked the "Checkout" button on a book, the book detail page will change. The button will change from "Checkout" to "Return" and the icon in the top left corner of the book will change from a green "In" icon to the red "Out" icon.
Share
If you've found a great book and you want to share it with others, click the three dots next to the heart icon and click "Share".
Citations
"Citations" is a great tool when you're writing a paper or essay and you need to use information you've learned from a book in Destiny. You can find in underneath the overview of the book.
You can choose the format of citation you would need, MLA9, APA, or Chicago. The citation will be created automatically, just click the copy button on the right side of the citation box

Reading a Book
When you open a book, you will see a blue bar appear at the top of the book. There are 7 options that appear on the right side of the blue bar, these options help you get the best reading experience.

The first option listed, the book icon, will show you the due date of your book as well as give you the option to return your book early.
Table of Contents
The second option, the list icon, will show you a Table of Contents. If you click on the different chapters, you'll be taken directly to that chapter.
Bookmarks
You can make bookmarks in your book by clicking on the third option on the top bar. If you want to mark a page to make it easy to find, open to the page you want to bookmark, click the bookmark icon and select "Add Bookmark" at the bottom of the page.
Notes
To add a note, highlight the word, sentence, or section you would like to add a note to, and click the "Note" button that pops up.

You can select the colour of the note and add any information to the note that you need. Click "Save" when you're done.
Notepad
To view any notes you have made, select the 5th icon on the top bar. You can search your notes by the colour of the note or the date that you have added the note. From this screen, you can view, edit, or delete the note. Clicking "Go" will take you to the page the note is on.
Searching in the Book
If you are looking for something specific, you can use the 6th icon in the top bar to search within the book. This is helpful with novel studies or study material, in the event you need to search a particular character, or topic.
Book Settings
The 7th icon, the settings gear icon, will let you tailor the book to your viewing needs. You can change the the background from white to black, use the Dyslexic font, the size of font, whether you see one page or two at a time, as well as how fast the book can be read and the voice the book is read in.

Sleep Timer
If you enjoy listening to audiobooks as you fall asleep, you can set a sleep timer so you don't lose your place in your book.
Reading Speed
If you need to slow down or speed up the audio, select the gear icon and adjust your speed.
My Stuff Tab
Checkouts
To see any book/audiobook that you have signed out, go to the "My Stuff" tab and select "Checkouts". This is where you can see details about the item you have signed out as well as read/listen to the item.

Within the "My Stuff" tab, you can view your checkouts, holds, favourites, and fines. We don't charge fines for our resources, so you don't need to worry about the fines tab.

Clicking on the three dots in the bottom corner will bring up several options. "Return" will give you an option to return your book early. "Open" is how you can read your book. "View Title Preview" will open a tab on the right side of the screen showing you details about the book. "Favorite/Unfavorite" will let you add a title to your favourites list or remove a title from your favourites list.
Holds
The "Holds" tab shows you any book that you have placed on hold.
Unhold Items
If you don't want the book anymore, click the three dots in the bottom right corner and select "UnHold". This will remove it from your list.
Favourites
To see all of the books you have added to your list, select the "Favorites" option in the "My Stuff" tab.

You can place an item on hold by clicking on the three dots in the bottom right and selecting "Hold" from the option menu.
See the details of an item by clicking "View Title Preview".
Remove the title from your Favourites list by clicking "UnFavorite".

If an item on your Favourites list can be signed out, clicking on the three dots will give you an option to checkout the book or open it to preview the book.
Sharing a Book
Share
If you've found a great book and you want to share it with others, click the three dots next to the heart icon and click "Share".
Share
You can choose to send the link to the book by downloading a QR code or copying a URL.
