Garden State Book Awards

Do you see a Garden State Book Award Nominee on your bingo board? Every year, librarians from around the state create a ballot of the best books published from the past few years. Children and Teens may then vote for their favorite titles for them to win the year's Garden State Children's Book Award for the next year.

For your Bingo Board, you can choose a nominee, or a winner from a previous year.

But if the light is right, the window becomes a mirror. Literature transforms human experience and reflects it back to us, and in that reflection we can see our own lives and experiences as part of the larger human experience.”

The lists below contains age appropriate books for kids from preschoolers to teenagers that highlight LGBTQIA+ authors and characters. These materials are often focused on themes like embracing who you are, understanding others, and exploring the many ways families can look and live. For example, a picture book might center on a child with two moms, or a character who feels different and learns to celebrate that difference. These are messages of identity, belonging, and compassion—values that may resonate with readers of all backgrounds.
