Overview of the Program

Located in the heart of the city, the Barcelona Study Abroad Experience (BSAE) Academic Study Center at the School for International Studies (SIS) boasts the best local and international professors while maintaining small class sizes. Individualized attention, ongoing evaluation, group projects and a curriculum closely tied to the city sets this program apart. Choose from May, June and/or July, and attend more than one session to complete more credits and get more time to explore this beautiful city.

Barcelona SAE assists students with the administration, housing, orientation, and course registration as well as providing cultural activities, day trips and excursions.

Overview of the area

• The city of Barcelona is a beautiful setting in the mountains on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea. 

• Famous for its art nouveau architecture and its 7 beaches, Barcelona is the 4th richest city in the EU and the 4th most visited city in Europe. 

• The language in Barcelona is Catalan, but the residents also speak Spanish.

•  Barcelona has a Mediterranean climate with mild winters and warm summers. 

Overview of Barcelona School for International Studies (SIS)

• Each course includes a variety of field studies, museum visits, and guided reflection that closely tie the courses to the city itself.  

• The courses offered at SIS encompass international and cross-cultural topics, focusing on the city by discussing local history, art, architecture, literature and geography. The Spanish Language courses focus on spoken language skills and include useful tools for students to debrief their experiences both in and out of the classroom.
